HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. – Virginia (Ginny) Hanlon, a resident of Haverstraw, died Saturday, July 16. She was 96.
Born Nov. 4, 1920, in Americus, Ga., she was the daughter of Kenny and Mary Phillips.
Prior to moving to New York, she worked at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Americus.
On Sept.4, 1944, she married Staff Sgt. Frank B. Hanlon. In 1946, they made their home and raised their family in Frank’s hometown, Haverstraw. While raising her family, Hanlon also worked caring for developmentally disabled children for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Benoist; son, Bill Hanlon and wife Amy; sister, Janelle Pittman and husband Joe; grandchildren, Daniel Benoist and wife Kellie, Tammy Benoist, Will Hanlon and companion Mary, Wendy Beliveau and husband Jake, Jenelle Hanlon and companion Matt and Logan Hanlon; and great-grandchildren, Ian, Emmanuel, Mary, Sarah, Jacob, Case and Emmett.
She was predeceased by her husband Frank; son-in-law Bobby (Butch) Benoist; and brother Vernon Phillips.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Central Presbyterian Church, 89 Hudson Ave. Immediately following the service, Hanlon will be laid to rest at Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw.
